The Athens Recreation Association Board of Directors would like to provide an important update regarding the Athens Pool. After exhausting every possible option to save the remainder of the 2026 swimming season, we have made the difficult decision to close the main pool for the rest of the summer.
This was not a decision anyone wanted to make. We explored every available option, but circumstances beyond our control made it impossible to safely reopen the main pool this season.
The good news is that this is not the end of the Athens Pool.
We are already moving forward with the repair project and are continuing to work with qualified contractors who specialize in this type of work. Our goal is simple: complete the necessary repairs and have the Athens Pool ready to welcome everyone back next summer.
We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support from our community. Many members and friends have made donations toward the repair project, and others have generously donated their membership refunds back to the pool. Your kindness, encouragement, and belief in the Athens Pool have meant more to us than words can express.
The kiddie pool remains open for scheduled swim lessons and open swim during its posted hours, and we look forward to seeing many of our families there for the remainder of the season.
We have communicated this update directly to our membership, swim lesson families who use the main pool, and our Aquasize participants. For over 60 years, the Athens Pool has been a place where generations of families have learned to swim, made lifelong memories, and built friendships. With your continued support, we are committed to preserving that tradition for many years to come.
